I made these bars while I was in Michigan. There was an abundance of apples everywhere. After first landing we went to a cider mill and got a big bag of apples. Then when we got to my great grandpa's house we found that a neighbor had dropped of two big boxes of apples for him. So most everything we made had apples in it.
These seem like a cross between a cake and a cookie. The apples get all nice and juicy while baking and of course the browned butter mades every flavor richer.
Mine stuck to the pan terribly. Everything seemed to there. No matter how much I would line, spray or butter and flour pans, it all got suck. Good thing I was making it for people whole didn't care if it stuck, just as long as it tasted good. I baked so much stuff on that trip, but these bar were one of my favorites. You could subsitute lots of different fruit, I think the original one called for cherries or maybe plums from Smitten Kitten, which looked great.

These look amazing. Loving the new title and recipe cards by the way!
You got me thinking of Cinnamon apple bread pudding... these look great! browned butter makes everything in life better... :p
What a talent you are! Love the new look and inspired by the photos (as always).
The big chunks of apple in that batter look so good, I'd love it for breakfast. I like your boots, too ;)
Very nice bar! I'd love a slice, now!
Mmmmm, these bars look yummy! Thanks for posting the recipe! :)
Who cares if they stuck. They look amazing. And a good brown butter litmus test. (Who wants to be around people that care if the homemade apple bars they are being served stick a bit to the pan?)
Looks yummy! You have to love fresh picked apples, then you add butter and sugar to them and you have to love them even more!
I know I've told you already but.. these are absolutely brilliant, the best thing involving apples I've ever tasted! Went out to buy apples and baked these as soon as I saw the recipe and it was so worth it! :) xx Franci
