I can not even remember the last time I had a crumpet. I know I used to eat them as a little kid, but I some how completely forgot about then for the past like 10 years. How sad, but these little fluffy, yeasty things are back! Cooking them in the pan is pretty messy but worth it. I used round cookie cutters in different sizes, and even throughly spraying them, the batter totally stuck to it. I just ran a toothpick around the ring to help them get out, before quickly cooking the other side.

Oh my Julie I have not had them in years....we don't get them here. Used to buy them in England and loved the way the butter melts into the holes...mmm....definitely going to try making them. Thanks so much!

I use Crisco (vegetable shortening) to grease my English Muffin rings and that helps with them not sticking!
My crumpets are doughy. I tried cooking at a lower temp. for longer and that didn't help. Any suggestions?

Love the pictures! Can anyone tell me if I HAVE to use powdered milk? Main reason is I would never use it again for anything else and just do not want to spend the money on a box of it. I'm wondering what the milk powder does? Thanks :)

If you're batter sticks to the cookie cutter, you might check out STARFRIT (GOOGLE IT) they make a non-stick crumpet pan that really works, it makes 7 at a time! I bought mine at Giant Tiger but I know lots of stores carry StarFrit gadgets - just look for a frying pan that has 7 round circles and two handles.
I had the same problem as someone else above. The batter seemed perfect but the crumpets didnt cook no matter how long I left them in the pan. Very doughy
