The Figgy. Shop and a Figgy Tart

So I have made a little shop for prints and such! Come check it out, there are about 20 different photos available and more to come. All photography by Julie Marie Craig.

Prints are available on lustre paper or on canvas, the latter being obviously more expensive but oh so luscious looking. I ordered the Onion photo as a test print and it came out great on canvas, reminded me of a old Renaissance painting.

So to celebrate my shop called The Figgy. I made a figgy tart. A friend of my mom gave her some figs (and I got some more today!) so I made a tart. It is pretty much the same recipe as the stone fruit tart but it somehow came out tasting totally different. First it was all vanilla and no almond, and also the layer of cream filling is much thicker since the figs seemed to take up less room than the stone fruit, so it tastes more custardy. I love how just a few slight changes in the recipe made it completely different.
So come take a look at the shop, there will be an update at probably the end of the week with more cards. Hope you enjoy! It was a lot of work, especially dealing with the domain name, so remember to go to www.thefiggyshop.com, leaving out the www. will not take you there, hopefully I can resolve that soon.

Also a twitter account for the shop to update y'all on new prints, products, any possible sales, etc.

Stone Fruit Tart

I am always on the search for the perfect little pastry that reminds me of the patisseries in Paris. After wandering around bakeries and cafes in fancy little towns, and still not finding something that would satisfy me, I decided to make my own. I hadn't really found a good recipe before that really made my mouth water. But then after seeing this recipe, from a book on Paris nonetheless, I knew I had to make it.
It is seriously amazing. The crust has just a hint of almond and the crisp of a sugar cookie but still the texture of a tart crust.  The filling! The fruit! It all just works.
